About the event
We’re gathering expressions of interest for a tukutuku workshop.
Tukutuku panels are traditional Māori lattice-style woven panels often used to decorate wharenui and other important buildings. They feature repeating geometric patterns and are a way to tell stories.
We’ll have a mix of traditional and contemporary tukutuku panels on display for inspiration, along with traditional materials you can see and hold. You’ll be using traditional techniques, but we’ll work with more accessible materials like wooden dowelling, pegboards and harakeke.
It’s a great workshop for beginners or anyone curious to give tukutuku a try. No experience needed. There will be plenty of time and space to work on your own panel, which you’ll take home at the end of the day. We’ll have drinks and nibbles available. Please let us know if you have any dietary needs.
Everything is provided, so just bring yourself and enjoy a relaxed, creative day with…
