Raurekau A4 Print
Raurekau - Coprosma grandifolia
Raurekau, also known as kanono or manono, is a tall native shrub or small tree with broad, glossy leaves and clusters of orange-red berries. Found throughout lowland and coastal forests, it is easily recognised by its large foliage and upright growth.
In Māori weaving practices, raurekau was valued for the dye it produced, the bark giving a warm yellow to golden colour used to stain fibres. This natural dye added depth and brightness to woven work, making raurekau an important plant in traditional fibre arts.
This A4 print highlights raurekau's place in Māori fibre arts.
